CTLGH Capacity Building: Call for Visiting Scientists
The Centre for Tropical Livestock Genetics and Health (CTLGH) hereby announces a call for early career scientists or PhD students in LMICs who are actively involved in Biosciences, Livestock Genetics/Health research to apply for a one-month visiting position within any of the three CTLGH partner Institutions (Edinburgh University, SRUC, and ILRI). CTLGH will cover travel, accommodation, and subsistence.
This call constitutes part of CTLGH’s activities in building capacity at the institutional and individual levels in LMICs. During their stay, the early career scientists or PhD students will be under the technical support and mentorship of CTLGH’s senior scientists and researchers.
Applicants must:
- Be part of a Research Institution or University either as a staff member or PhD student.
- Be active in research as evidenced by publications in a CV or full-time enrolment in a PhD programme. A copy CV should be attached.
- Have an ongoing scientific project with well-defined goals, real data and a specific problem to work on during the visit. The applicant is asked to provide a proposal underpinning the research and a progress report.
- Have a clear plan of research, training, and a well-defined set of objectives that the visit will accomplish on either the ongoing project or a closely aligned one. A Gantt Chart should be attached for a period not less than 1 month. Also, a broad plan of research beyond the period of visit, although it is anticipated that this might develop further during/after the visit.
- Have research objectives aligned to one of CTLGH pillars namely, dairy genomics, poultry genomics, small ruminant genomics, reproductive technologies, health genetics, and informatics and bioresources (https://www.ctlgh.org/research/)
Application Procedure
Applicants who meet the above requirements should write an application letter indicating their interest, research area and ongoing research activities. They should demonstrate clearly how this visit will help them achieve their career goals and how their research objectives align with any of the pillars of CTLGH. In addition, the applicant should attach documents that meet the requirements outlined in (ii), (iii) and (iv) above.

The closing date for applicants will be Tuesday 31st December 2024, with interviews being held the week of 10th February 2025.
