Capacity Building and Knowledge Exchange
Ensuring that we connect with the people who use and implement our science is integral to CTLGH’s success. This pillar aims to expand the capacity of our downstream actors through the provision of training materials and workshops, improving access to scientific information, and supporting the on-site implementation of CTLGH research.
Featured projects

CTLGH annual training programme
As part of its capacity building and knowledge exchange programme, CTLGH runs annual hands-on training courses.
The Genetic and Genomic Approaches for Livestock Improvement in the Tropics training programme is designed to support and empower animal scientists with diverse backgrounds and varying skills in animal breeding and genetics in low-and-middle income countries (LMICs) in Africa and Asia.
The objective of the programme is to immerse participants in the theory and practice of phenotypic, genetic and genomic data analyses. Practical sessions emphasise the fundamentals of genetic evaluations and the integration of genome-based approaches into animal breeding initiatives in the Global South.

CTLGH visiting scientist programme
This programme is open to early career scientists or PhD students in LMICs who are actively involved in livestock genetics and health research.
This programme is aimed to strengthen capacity at individual and institutional levels by focusing on the scientific needs of individual scientists while reflecting the individual’s role in their institution.
We aim to provide early career scientists and near-completion PhD students with a unique opportunity to enhance their research and professional development through a one- to three-month visiting position at one of the three CTLGH partner institutions – Edinburgh University, SRUC, or ILRI.
The Visiting Scientist call is open from November to January each year. More information can be found on our LinkedIn page.
